Goddesses embodying Beauty and Grace, the greek Charites or roman Graces were originally goddesses of vegetation, then they were associated with intense and festive life.

Named Aglae, Thalie, Euphrosyne, the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, are represented here with a cherub.

That low-relief reproduces a painting « the Three Graces », companions of Venus, supporting Cupid by François Boucher (1765) now shown at the Musée du Louvre.
