This limestone low-relief depicts the famous ancient scene of The Merchant of love, where a female figure offers small winged Cupids, symbols of love and desire. With a touch of irony, the artwork evokes the notion of emotions that can be bought, sold, or tamed.

Inspired by a fresco from the Villa Arianna in Stabies, now preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, this scene was one of the most admired and reproduced during the Neoclassical and Rococo periods. A refined piece combining mythological grace with ancient heritage.
