Worship of fire

146,00

Dimensions : 14 x 15 cm
Type of support: Stand
Completing time: 9 months

This low-relief depicts two Vestals, dressed in flowing veils and styled in the manner of antiquity, watching with devotion over the sacred fire. Servants of the goddess Vesta, these priestesses—chosen from Rome’s noble families—were entrusted with the solemn duty of preserving the sacred flame within her temple.

At the centre of this mythological composition, the fire burns within an urn, a symbol of offering, while a statue of Cupid stands on a pedestal, overseeing the scene. The delicate flames rising from the urn interact harmoniously with the airy transparency of the drapery, giving the entire piece a sense of movement and refinement.

Crafted using a technique unique in the world, this low-relief is distinguished by its remarkable precision, the richness of its details, and the finesse of its composition.
